Tell me what not to wear.

Corporate Behemoth keeps its offices at a delightful 68 degrees. This means that even in the heat of the summer, you need a sweater. Obviously, this makes dressing a challenge. Like, even more of a challenge than the usual plaid + stripes = eww.

Today, I decided to be all crazy like and not wear a sweater. I decided to go with a short-sleeved t-shirt and a linen scarf. I figured the scarf would offset any chilliness from having bare arms.

Here's the ensemble, with the camera cleverly positioned to cover up the 276 zits on my chin:
Ok. So, today I had not one but two male, developer-types stop me in the hallway about this ensemble.

The first was just like, "Nice scarf!"

Umm? Ok.

But the second? Stopped, and told a senior vice president to hold on a minute, because he needed to talk to me. And here's what he said: "Nice scarf! Do you have a cold? Or is it winter and I just didn't know it?"

And here's what I said in return - verbatim: "Uhhh?"

Seriously? These two guys are dressed up when they're sporting clean polo shirts and khakis. And they're dissing my scarf?

The first comment could be an anomaly, but two comments make me nervous. So, shoot me straight: is the scarf a little too Dr. Zhivago for June? Or am I a fashion visionary? Or something in between?

Give it to me straight. I can take it.

Umm.... really, one of my best friends always wears scarves as accessories and also to keep her warm (because she is always cold). I guess those 2 men were just... not fashion savvy.

Girl, remember, it's a "Pashmina", not a scarf... and it's so totally in fashion right now. You are ready for the runway chick, and they just fell off...

The first one might have really been a complement but the second one obviously doesn't know anything about fashion. Where your scarf with pride.

Well, I bought my very first accessorizing scarf this spring, and I wear it with a short-sleeved t-shirt. It does seem to be the style these days, even though it's an odd combo. The t-shirt I wear with my scarf is a little bit fancy, not just a plain T.

I say ask K for advice on this one. When I was buying my scarf, he was very excited and told me all about the world of the pashmina. He would, you know.

I'm hoping my sister can log when she hits the ground in Europe (see! Doesn't being a world traveler imply she has fashion savvy?). I'm a geek and nobody who knows me would ever seek my advice on what to wear or not wear.

I did have one of my engineers tell me one time not to wear colored socks with white tennis shoes. So if that ever comes up let me know. I'm happy to pass that tip on.

Cha Cha, I just got one recently too. It's pink, because you can't have enough pink. I have worn it with a t-shirt and skirt, but also with a t-shirt, khaki pants and a jean jacket. (It was rainy that day.)

I say just go for it. :)

Cha Cha, please, the scarf is fantastic. It is VERY chic European. Those comments show that those fools lack vision.

Hi my favorite little Cha Cha! Boy did I need to visit you and your blog a lot sooner than this morning. You have me rolling on the floor here! (Well, not literally as I would have to explain to my 80 year old dad what was so funny and I can't get him to understand anything I say let alone try to explain funny middle school names and Journey videos) But my insides want to be rolling on the floor, rolling anywhere but here at this point. Enjoy those cool parents of yours, girlie. My parents were 36 when they had me and an old 36, more like 50something in normal human years so now that my dad is 80, the gap seems even further away since he is like 115 or something in normal human years. The thermostat here is set at like 85 degrees in their house so you would have to wear a bikini with that scarf, by the way, and the TV volume is going to make me deaf before I get home. And I could totally win like millions of dollars on game shows since we watch reruns of them all day everyday. They have satellite but only to one TV so it can't be avoided by vision or sound. I truly think I am getting smarter.

Okay, so I am obviously getting way behind on blogging but I really just wanted to make sure I popped in and said hi and left a big mushy gushy thank you for your support and friendship and good thoughts. And, I think you're a hottie, scarf and all. What ever made you think men know anything about fashion? They would have loved the scarf if that was all you were wearing. You'd be hearing completely different comments!

I'll be back to finish catching up. Until then, I hope you have a great weekend and that no one is waiting outside in their van full of duct tape. I am totally having deja vous - seems I have written this before. That's kinda funny and disturbing at the same time.

Love ya girl!

Hey, just posted a picture in Rome wearing my scarf. You are not alone. The key is to wear a light weight scarf in spring/summer- which I think you are doing.

I can't stop myself from getting you a scarf . . .so there is one coming your way soon.
