Items of note.

So much bidness this week. Where to begin?

Are we not in love?
In response to my admission that I hate pickles and mustard more than anything in the universe, A Piece of News posted this: When I was a kid I would take a whole dill pickle, cover it in mustard and then sprinkle it with salt. Does this mean we have a deal-breaker? ;)

No, it's not a deal-breaker. But I refuse to French you.

More lessons from the Tiger Woods scandal.
Betty Broderick was denied bail this week. You might remember her as played by Meredith Baxter-Birney in A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story. Yep. Betty went after her ex-husband and his new wife. With a gun. The lesson here? When it comes to revenge, be an Elin, not a Betty. Gun? Not so much. Golf club? Hell yeah.

An e-mail from my lovely mother.
I'd forgotten I hadn't downloaded pictures from Christmas! Thought you needed to see:

The Stack The Elder Statesman
Love, Yo Momma

BWAH HA HA!

A true and honest offer-slash-desperate plea.
All of the comments about Jell-o salads made me want to, well, create and eat Jell-o salads. All of you fine readers who reminisced in the comments about orange sherbet and Jell-o salad? The raspberry Jell-o with the blueberry pie filling? The egg nog Jell-o treat? Iron Needles, Tracye, and CheckerMom - are you listening?

If you e-mail me a Jell-o recipe, I will trade you. I will send you the recipe for my all-time favorite dessert ever in the history of the universe. It involves not one but two - two! - kinds of pudding. And Cool Whip. And Jiffy cake mix.

A true and honest offer-slash-desperate plea, part deux.
Green Girl in Wisconsin had an excellent idea for beating the winter blahs.

I have two words for you: Spa Weekend. The only question is WHEN? Shall we meet in Iowa?

I hear Cedar Rapids is lovely this time of year.

I love, love, love that idea, Green Girl. But Iowa is getting ice storms, like, every other day.
Isn't my parents' yard lovely? Those branches? They used to be, like, attached to the trees.
And yes, my people e-mail each other photos of weather. That's how we roll.

So, maybe we should consider alternatives. Because I can't wait until winter is over to get me some hot spa action.

Maybe we should all get massages on the same day - an international blogger spa day! And then we could all blog about how relaxed and happy and Zen we are, and it would send all this positive energy into the universe, and then maybe I'd stop being so crabby about how the library lost my held materials AGAIN and how I have to go to Miami this week not to sit in the sun but to sit in a call center. Maybe the positive energy would make a difference in the world.

Who's with me?

Love the doxie stack.

Also the recipe is winging it's way to you by email.

The crazy beagles also love to stack. They sleep too light to get a good picture though.

I don't really have a unique jello recipe. Would you all be willing to share your recipes with the "jello challenged" masses? This weekend I tried "Crazy Cake" after reading an article about it in the LA Times online. It came out pretty darn good.

And spa day? Love the idea!

Egg Nog Jello recipe coming you way. I want the cool whip/pudding/jiffy cake thingy please. I feel in desperate need to stuff my face since we apparently no longer have the blessing of the Sun God.

I would give most of my teeth (for what they're worth) for a spa day if I could afford one... In fact, it's the only thing I asked for for my 40th birthday last May (my husband promised to set it up but of course our dire finances nixed it in the end)... I'm determined to find the time and money to go ahead this year, somehow. So yeah, I'm in...
No recipes, I'm afraid, as I have no idea what a Jell'o salad is, or Cool Whip or Jiffy cake mixes or whatever for that matter. Poor, deprived European that I am.
Woe is me, indeed.
I think I need a spa day...!

those pups are cute.
Will have to dig around my recipes--today I was doing that in search of an enchilada recipe (never found) and discovered the Packers/Ravens game tickets from December that D lost.
An international day of massages? You could be on to something...
there's a spa at the Riverside Casino, you know...about an hour from Cedar Rapids I think.

I would love to go to a spa for the day, but the only one her is a Korean naked women spa and I can't get over the walking around naked part. I've never been a comfortable nudist.

For the record, I always thought Betty's husband might have got what he deserved. Harsh, but I remember seeing her on Oprah and I didn't hate her.

I can't pass up the chance for a recipe that involves two kinds of puddin'!
Here is the recipe for Most Fantastical Blueberry-Raspberry J-E-L-L-O!

6 oz package raspberry jello
2 cups boiling water
1 20 oz can crushed pineapple (do not drain)
1 large (15 or 20 oz) can blueberry pie filling

Dissolve jello in boiling water. Add crushed pineapple (with juice) and blueberry pie filling. Pour into 9x13 pan (I dissolve and add right in the 9x13 pan, save dirtying a bowl). Refrigerate until set.

Topping:
1 8oz package cream cheese
12 large marshmallows
1 container (small) Cool Whip

Melt cream cheese & marshmallows over low heat, stirring a lot so it doesn't burn. Melt until really smooth (it'll get there eventually). Cool and add Cool Whip, blend well and spread over the jello mixture. Keep in fridge until you eat it all up! Yum!

Oh, by the way, I've made it with just blended cream cheese and cool whip folded into the cream cheese, spread over the mixture. A lot easier and frankly couldn't tell the difference in taste. Try it both ways!

I may have to make a batch of that before my new elliptical machine arrives on Friday and I actually start to pay attention to calories.

OMG...just reading that recipe added 3 lbs of jiggly mass to each hip! Gotta try that one this weekend.

Say Yes to the Spa!

So we can still cuddle?

My favorite jell-o DESSERT involves coconut. I shall dig it up and send it because I am just dying to try your magical Jiffy cake mix pudding stuff.

Ice storm? What? KCCI said this morning that this is Iowa's snowiest something (January, I think) since 1886! I want to go up to Minneapolis for a thing on January 31, but I'm afraid if I got up there, I may not get back. Or I could spend the rest of my life wandering around the Boondocks exit gas station like a stray cat.

So much,so much! My head explodes with blogging goodness! My people also email weather photos, so that especially cracked me up. My momma is fond of emailing lowest temp in the U.S. reports for the town next door and links to the local paper's ice and snow photos as if to say "look what you're missing!" while I try to restrain my "that's why I moved" and "people weren't meant to inhabit that part of the earth" commentary. We are not that dissimilar in the jello department either, although there might be an occasional wild rice component added to the recipe as the local show off tries to stand out from the youth hockey banquet or Girl Scout father/daughter smorgasbord line. I wonder if there has been any research on the correlation between cold winter climates and the market demand for primary colored food products?
